The AAT offers many different configurations for optical spectroscopy, and in most cases a choice of detectors. Each of the available spectrographs is briefly described below, but astronomers planning an observing run will need to consult the relevant AAO Users' Manual for more detailed information on the spectrograph of their choice. Information about detectors is given in chapter 6 of this guide, while infrared spectroscopy is discussed separately in chapter 8. Appendix B gives a quick guide to the sensitivity of various spectrograph/detector combinations, and provides the basic data needed for calculating exposure times.
