Getting to the ATNF lecture theatre and AAO headquarters
The ATNF lecture theatre and the AAO headquarters are situated on the CSIRO Radiophysics Laboratory site, on the corner of Pembroke Road and Vimiera Road in Marsfield. The main entrance is from Pembroke Road. A map of the area can be found here. Below are several options to get to the venue from Sydney Kingsford-Smith Airport:
- Taxi:
The taxi fare from the airport is approximately $85. Most taxis will accept credit card payment. Tell the taxi driver that the entrance is near the corner of Vimiera Road and Pembroke Road. Travelling from the city towards Epping, Vimiera Road crosses Epping Road one set of lights after Macquarie University. Turn left at Vimiera Road, then first right into Pembroke Road to reach the main gate.
- Shuttle bus:
Mini-buses can pick you up from the airport and bring you directly to the ATNF site. The cost is approximately $45.00. To book this service (advance bookings required) see http://www.airportshuttlenorth.com/.
- Public transport:
The Transport Infoline is a useful site for planning trips by public transport in Sydney. One option is to take the Airport-link train to Central, then a train to Epping (Hornsby or Northern line), then a bus (288, 289, 290) to the Marsfield site. Get off the bus at Vimiera Road, cross Epping Road and walk along Vimiera Road on the other side. You will see the site on the corner with Pembroke Road.
- Car Hire
Note you will need an E-tag as many roads are cashless toll roads. From the airport, follow signs to the City, you will drive through the Eastern Distributor (toll road). Continue following signs to North Sydney or Epping. You will continue on through the harbour tunnel. At the north end of the tunnel keep on the freeway (keep to the right-hand lanes) and follow the signs for Epping/Lane Cove. Drive through the Lane Cove Tunnel (toll road) and then proceed on Epping Road for about 7 km. Do NOT go onto the M2 Freeway. Vimiera Road is a left turn off Epping Road at a set of traffic lights about 2km before Epping. Turn right into Pembroke Road. The site entrance will be on your left.
