AAO Observer Travel Notification Form

This form is solely for AAT and UKST users who are planning an observing run. It should be filled in and submitted to the AAO.

If you are not observing at the AAT or the UKST, please contact the relevant organisations directly.

This form is also used to make your SSO lodge booking if applicable. There is no longer any need to fill in a separate lodge booking form.

Fields with a coloured background or labelled with "Required" must be completed. All other fields are optional.

Booking of travel to Coonabarabran

The AAO is no longer able to provide a travel booking service. Visiting observers are required to make their own travel arrangements.

Please Note: Taxi hire from Dubbo airport to Siding Spring is from $AU415 each way if prebooked with Satellite Taxis in Coonabarabran. (April 2009 price). Hailing a taxi in Dubbo for travel to Siding Spring will cost in excess of $AU600.
Taxi hire from Coonabarabran Tourist Information Centre to the telescopes costs around $AU76 each way.

AAO Colloquia

The AAO strongly encourages observers and other visitors to talk about their work during their visit. This can be arranged either in Sydney or by video-conference from the AAT. The AAO provides funding to allow people to stay an extra night in Sydney, if necessary.

Accommodation in Coonabarabran

Required

The SSO Lodge. To be paid directly by AAO. For eligible Australian AAT Observers. See Travel and Accommodation support for details.

After confirming your eligibility for payment by the AAO, the AAO will perform your lodge booking on your behalf.

We will contact you with any questions or problems.

Important: Please allow 5 working days for processing. If you are planning to arrive at the Lodge in less than 5 working days time, please contact the lodge directly to ensure your reservation is made.

Payment is usually made for one Astronomer and one student for at most the length of the run plus one night. For the purpose of eligibility are you:

Visitors are welcome to bring along their own notebook or laptop computer for use during their visit. To assist the AAO in meeting our obligations with regard to the Government's IT security rules, we ask that you please answer the following questions:

Note: The Media Access Control (MAC) address is a hardware or physical address that uniquely identifies a network interface. It is usually written as a 12 digit hexadecimal number. It is sometimes printed on a label attached to the computer. It may be determined from the operating system in many ways. For example on windows run "ipconfig /all", on linux run "ifconfig" and on a Macintosh it can be found in under advanced in the system prferences, network screen.
