The STScI Digital Sky Survey

STScI have scanned a number of photographic sky surveys, and the resultant
pixel data are available off-line on CDROM and via the web at a number
of sites:
On-line Access

DSS-I

Scans of the Palomar E and UKST J surveys (~1950 - 1980) with 1.7 arcsec
pixels.

Held on 101 CDROMs, available in the user room at AAO, Epping and the control
room at the AAT.

Accessed using getimage.
DSS-II
-
Scans of the second epoch Palomar B, R and I, and UKST J, R and I surveys
with 1 arcsec pixels.

Held on ~400 CDROMs per band.

All scanned CDROMs are stored in black wallets in the chartroom at AAO
Epping (Melocco Building). Contact Ray Stathakis (ras@aaoepp.aao.gov.au)

As of February 2000, the R band is 92% complete (810 fields in the south,
856 fields in the north) covering XDSS 0001 - 0372 (with the exception
of 0058-0060). These maps show the current sky coverage in the south (gif,
ps)
and the north (gif,
ps).
The J-band is 56% complete covering XDSS 1001 - 1225.
(Note that in the sky coverage maps, the northern sky is drawn with negative
declination.)
