The Galaxy and Mass Assembly survey

Abstract:
I will give an overview of the GAMA survey, and an update following the completion of the AAT observations from 2008-2010. GAMA has now obtained new spectra for 120000 unique galaxies over 150 square degrees, distributed in three 50 sq. deg. equatorial fields, with a survey completeness of 99% and a redshift completeness of 94%. We will be making our first public data release to coincide with the upcoming AAO Symposium, on the 25th June 2010. Initial scientific results from the survey have already started to flow, with intriguing results on the properties of galaxy obscuration, stellar initial mass function variations and the nature of the faintest star forming galaxies, among others. A selection of these results will be outlined, highlighting the work of AAO staff and students involved in the GAMA project.
