ARIES, India.

Abstract:
The development in the field of multi-wavelength observational astronomy in India has been quite significant in recent years. In order to strengthen the capabilities in optical band, a modern 3.6 meter new technology telescope is being set up at Devasthal, Nainital (Lat = 29 deg 23 min North; Long = 79 deg 41 min East; Altitude = 2540 meter) located in central Himalayas. The scientific objectives with special emphasis on the studies of GRB afterglows and astero- seismology will be discussed in the talk.
