The LARC Survey and photometric comparison to the APM
Kevin Pimbblet University of Durham
The LARC (Las Campanas and AAT Rich Cluster) Survey is a large, long term
project to study a statistically reliable sample of the richest clusters
in the southern hemisphere in a redshift slice between z=0.07-0.15.
Objectives of the Survey are outlined and target selection examined. The
observations made on the LCO, AAT, XMM and ROSAT are summarized and the
data reduction pipeline is explained. The overlap area between the
survey and the APM is photometrically analyzed (Pimbblet et al. 2000. in
prep). Using the superior star-galaxy separation of LARCS, it is shown
that the APM (and hence the GRS input catalogue) systematically misses out
galaxies. The properties of the missing population are discussed.
Future work directions will also be highlighted.
