The u'g'r'i'z' Standard Star System

Prof J. Allyn Smith

Univ.Wyoming, USA.

Abstract:
We present the status of the u'g'r'i'z' standard star network in the context of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The SDSS is a 5-band imaging survey of some 10,000 square degrees in the northern galactic cap to investigate the large scale structure of the universe. Part of the survey includes spectroscopic observations of nearly 1.3 million objects, mostly galaxies, LRGs and QSOs. The basis of all the target selection is centered around the standard star system. We present some of the history of system development, current activities, and plans for enhancement of the standard system to support the SDSS extension activities. An introduction to the SDSS is presented as part of the talk.
