"Searching for fossil groups in the XMM Cluster Survey"
Abstract. In this talk I will review a project that is underway to locate fossilgroups using the high quality X-ray data from XMM combined withoptical data from the SDSS. Originally, fossil groups were thought torepresent the end-state of galaxy evolution in isolated groups butrecently it has been suggested that they are merely a phase in clusterevolution. Initial results of an analysis of the dominant galaxies infossil groups aimed at differentiating between these two alternativeswill also be presented.
