We give two examples - one with the IPCS, the other with the Thomson CCD; both are for observations at 6500Å and with an etalon finesse of 30. With the IPCS, a four hour-long integration will give a S/N = 3 (sufficient to get a crude velocity measure for emission lines) on objects with surface brightness of 2.4x10-16erg /s/cm2/arcsec2. With the Thomson CCD, the surface brightness giving S/N = 3 in 4 hours is 7.0x 10-17erg /s/cm2/arcsec2.
