Taurus Tunable Filter

AAT Instrument. The Taurus Tunable Filter is a decommissioned instrument and is no longer offered or supported at the AAT. The following information is provided for historical completeness.

In Brief: The TTF allows for tunable narrow-band imaging over the full optical window (3700Å - 1 micron). With associated charge shuffling linked to telescope nodding and frequency switching (developed at the AAO), the instrument allows great flexibility for a wide range of experiments.
Instrument Scientist: No Instrument Scientist at present. Contact Head of Astronomy for information.
Manual: See the TTF online information
Other Info: The TTF Signal/Noise Calculator
The Taurus Homepage contains information on the different modes of operation for Taurus

Fact Sheet:

Detector: Tek 1K, MITLL 2Kx4K
Focal Station: Mounted at Cassegrain f/8 or f/15
Spectral Resolution*: Resolving powers in the range 100-1000 for the red TTF, 300-3000 for the blue TTF.
Wavelength Coverage: 3700Å - 6500Å (blue TTF); 6000Å - 1um (red TTF).
*Spectral Resolution R measured as lambda/delta_lambda, delta_lambda = FWHM unresolved line, usually 2 pixels.
