AAT Instrument
| In Brief: | UHRF is an Echelle spectrograph located at the coudé
focus.
It offers ultra high resolution over very small spectral regions. An
image
slicer is used. Focal reducing lenses are available to provide lower
resolutions. Note that the CYCLOPS fibre-feed being offered for UCLES can not be used for UHRF. |

For recently updated information see the UHRF Cookbook A service programme is available for projects requiring <6 hrs. |
Fact Sheet: |
|
| Detector: | EEV2 2kx4k 13.5um square pixels, usually binned x 8. The EEV suffers from fringing in the red, but the MITLL3 is not ideal for most programs as it doesn't support on-chip binning. |
| Focal Station: | Mounted at Coudé focus with f/36 top end. |
| Image Slicer: | 1.5×1.5 arcsec entrance, but not fully transmitted. Throughput depends on seeing and telescope pointing. |
| Spectral Resolution*: | R=300 000 (0.3M), 600 000 (0.6M) or 940 000 (1.0M mode) |
| Wavelength Coverage: | 1.0M: 4Å (@3000Å) - 13Å (@11000Å)
0.6M: 6Å (@3000Å) - 22Å (@11000Å) 0.3M: 13Å (@3000Å) - 45Å (@11000Å) |
| Gratings: | 31.6 lines/mm echelle plus range of cross-dispersing gratings. |
| Sensitivities: | Approximate sensitivities for UHRF+EEV: B=3.0 at 4232Å, V=3.3 at 5890Å and I=2.4 at 7700Å give 100 electrons/sec per 0.01Å in 1.8" seeing. For more info see the manual. |
| *Spectral Resolution R measured as &lambda/&delta&lambda, where &delta&lambda = FWHM unresolved line, usually 2 pixels. | |
