The images on these web pages are not in the public domain.
The copyright of all photographs should be acknowledged whenever they are reproduced (see below).
Commercial use of AAO images
These images are exclusively managed for the AAO by David Malin Images (DMI). Please contact DMI for information on commercial and other reproduction rights and conditions or David Malin firstname.lastname@example.org for technical information. Some technical information about the photographs is already available on-line. Images files from the web pages may be used in publications without payment, provided the copyright notice remains legible or is reproduced nearby.
All photographs supplied as high resolution files, prints or transparencies are free from the burned-in credit lines on the web pages. However, they are supplied only where we have a mailing address of the recipient and on condition that they are only used in the context agreed in writing between the recipient and the Australian Astronomical Observatory (AAO) or its exclusive agent, David Malin Images (DMI). They are not to be distributed to third parties unless in the course of the agreed project or work, nor can they be published or redistributed in any form without permission.
Images incorporated in other, non-commercial works (e.g. HST montages) where the AAO image is not the main part of the montage, may be reproduced under the copyright conditions of the owner of the main image without permission from DMI, provided always that the AAO copyright is acknowledged in any such reproduction.
The images must not be used in any way that implies AAO or DMI endorsement of any service, product, political party, organisation, entity, religious belief etc., and must not be used in a manner that promotes pornography or other material that could be construed as distasteful or offensive.
Use of images on personal web pages and in presentations
The pictures on this site or that of David Malin Images (DMI) that have burned-in credit lines are available free for use on bulletin boards or other, non-commercial, free access WWW sites or publications. However, this requires the written permission of the copyright holders, and is subject to the following conditions:
Each of the individual AAO and DMI images pages has copyright information for each image. All AAO pages have the full copyright wording as text immediately underneath each displayed photograph and/or burned into each image.
