to slight misalignments in the optics, use of the beam rotator moves the
telescope pupil in the UCLES camera, and the change in vignetting can cause
losses of up to 30. Efforts to correct this have been only partially
successful.

- Another image slicer was also available
for UCLES prior to UHRF, but it was beneficial only over a very narrow
range of seeing from 1.0 to 56#56, and even then gave a maximum gain of only
10 to 15 . It has been retired; details may be found in the original
UCLES manual UM25.1 or from the instrument scientist.
