Starting ECHWIND

ECHWIND will soon be released as a UNIX program. The existing VMS version is activated as follows:
At an AAO site, type

@SSC:LOGIN
and...
ECHWINDSTART
...to define the command,
XON xterminal
to declare the display terminal, and
ECHWIND
to start the program. The program prompts for the desired echelle grating (which can be changed once the program is running), for information on the detector dimensions (which can also be changed subsequently) and for the instrument name, which determines the form of the output control file, should you save one.

Two keywords can be specified on the command line:
ECHWIND DEV= device LINES= filename
device specifies the output device; e.g. XWINDOWS
filename is a filename.DAT list of spectral lines whose positions and optional labels are displayed. The file format looks like this:

     6562.80   'HA'
     4861.32   'HB'
     4340.46   'HG'
     etc ...
