What is Astrobiology?

Astrobiology is the study of life in a cosmic context.

As defined by NASA's Astrobiology Institute astrobiology seeks to answer the following questions:

1. How does life begin and develop?

2. Does life exist elsewhere in the universe?

3. What is life's future on Earth and beyond?

Astrobiology is multidisciplinary. It involves cooperation between scientists in many different fields - astronomy, atmospheric physics, biology, chemistry, geology, palaeontology, planetary science and others.
