GENERAL BUILDER/HANDYPERSON

Salary range $35,471 to $53,817 p.a.

plus superannuation

 

Applications are invited for the above position which is based at the Anglo-Australian Observatory (AAO) near Coonabarabran, NSW. Coonabarabran is an attractive country town with very good schools, affordable housing, located within a clean and healthy environment with the popular Warrumbungle National Park nearby.

 

The AAO, which is one of the world’s leading astronomical facilities, operates two major optical telescopes, the 3.9m Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT) and the 1.2m United Kingdom Schmidt Telescope (UKST) located at Siding Spring Mountain near Coonabarabran with the headquarters in Sydney.

 

A major refurbishment project is in progress. The Building Services group requires a person with a building background to carry out a variety of general building maintenance work from general carpentry to painting.

 

Ideally the successful candidates will have a trade qualification, but it is not essential for this role. The position would require a self motivated person with a can do attitude to carry out a variety of general building maintenance work. You will be expected to both work as part of a team and assist other trades to carry out work unsupervised. A demonstrated ability to working at heights is essential.

 

The appointment is full time for a term of three years and includes an attractive superannuation scheme.

     Demonstrated hands on approach in general building maintenance tasks such as basic carpentry, painting, plastering and plumbing

     Proven ability in general building maintenance

     Adhering to OH&S standards and practices

     Must hold a current driver’s licence

     Willingness to work with other trades

     Ability to work at heights
