I work in the Australian Astronomical Observatory's software group, at present mainly on instrument control software. I was one of the three people responsible for the AAO's DRAMA data acquisition environment (the others being Tony Farrell and Jeremy Bailey). In the past I have also done a significant amount of work in astronomical data reduction, particularly the Figaro data reduction system. I have a particular interest in communication in the general field of astronomical software - I have a number of publications connected with this, and am associated with the Astroshare project, and with the Astrophysics Source Code Library (ASCL). Recently, I have been particularly interested in the question of using hardware simulation to help develop instrumental software. I have also been experimenting with the use of OpenGL for displaying astronomical data, and have been working on an example program that does this.
