NIGHT SKIES: The Art of Deep Space

Science as Art? The spectacular images created by David Malin have been used in a remarkable variety of contexts. Now, for the first time, these images have been drawn together into two exciting exhibitions scheduled to tour throughout Australia and the UK during 1997.

Forty of David's images have been selected, with the aim of bringing the hidden world of the Universe to as wide an audience as possible. Images of galaxies, stars and dusty clouds tell the story of the discovery and exploration of our galaxy and the birth and death of the stars that sustain it.

This project is a the collaboration between the AAO and the British Council and forms part of the Council's 1997 new IMAGES program, a celebration of 50 years of the British Council in Australia.

The UK opening was held at Australia House in London on 30 January, to great acclaim. The exhibition opens at the Victorian Arts Centre in Melbourne on 21 March. The catalogue is splendid, and will be on sale at each of the venues and through the AAO.
