JSC KK notified JSC
PATT PN.S to apply for science time via NL and UK PATT around Sep 12 2000, for September deadline WHT proposal w01an011 provisionally awarded 2 Dark nights from the NL PATT one from UK PATT, April 16, 17, 18
flange required, awaiting quote from Kevin Dee (last questions from Paul Jolley 31.8.00) is contracted to MSO
A.G. box (1) check that PN.S doesn't interfere with aquisition and guiding OK PROVIDED that the instrument does not protrude into the hole of the lowermost ring of the AGB box (RC 6.10.00) - John Hart confirms sighting this
A.G. box (2) check that CuNe, CuAr and white light fully illuminate the 12' square field Confirmation received that illumination is "pretty uniform" over a 16cm box (which is 12') at Cass (RC 18.12.00)
control Instrument requires a cable connection to link a 19" rack (Cass) with a PC (Control room). Standard at the WHT is 55w PAT105 (62GB) military connectors (27 pole twisted pair) ... email John Mills 12.1.01.
The PN.S has several cabling possibilities. In early discussions we requested a Centronics type link (see sketch) and two 19" rack spaces but we are now working on a simplified arrangement.
Confirmation received that a suitable 19" crate is available and can be mounted (RC 15.12.00); exact orientation is not known so agree with John Hart on cable length of 5m between motors and 19" crate.
ND is in contact with John Mills (ejm@ing.iac.es) about the use of the PAT105 connectors. Confirmation received that a PC is available for us, but contact Phil Symonds (pgs@ing.iac.es) close to arrival.
data via ING acquisition system
safety email from Alan Chopping (23.10.00, akc@ing.iac.es) -- there are not specific regulations: suggests that "if you have a primary plan/design for the instrument we should meet and discuss the safety implications with all interested parties such as electronics and mechanical"
handling awaiting specific reply about handler, but ING will provide ... technical assistance for mounting and dismounting the instrument 12.6.00
detectors and cryostat mechanical interface two (2k x 2k x 15um) CCDs required, PN.S is designed to accomodate ING standard dewars Detector info: La Palma engineering
Drawings of the adaptor flanges attachment (RC 6.10.00) have now been looked at by John Hart
storage in WHT dome area until further notice; dry nitrogen fill required
transportation
  • the shipping contact at LPO is Juan Martinez (juan@ing.iac.es) phone +34 922 425414
  • from MSO to LPO the stimate for shipping time was 7 days (see comment at right)
  • facilities will be required for transportation between WHT and TNG buildings
On Tue, 24 Apr 2001, John Hart wrote: "Rick in the mail room confirmed that the only way TNT could get it over there would be by economy air at $6 per item, $9.50 per kilo and would take about a week"
instrument readiness mostly at RSAA see status
