Planetary Nebula Spectrograph: Dichroic

older discussions

Specifications:

Size of the beamsplitter: 280 mm x 190 mm x 20mm
Material: fused silica
Flatness: 1/4 wave p-v at 500 nm
Orientation: 45o +/- 5o to the incoming beam
Transmission: 495-505 nm > 97% (primary specification!)
(Front) reflection: 650-664 nm > 80%

Important notes:

The transmission performance is most important and should be optimised in the design, i.e. highest possible transmission with minimum ripple. The achieved reflection is negotiable.

Since the dichroic mirror reflects from the front surface, the rear surface should be AR coated for the transmitted light exiting the substrate.

Specification on transmission is for unpolarised light over the range of angles indicated.

Bob.Oreb@csiro.au: Please find attached a Word document showing the calculated spectral reflectance performance of the Dichroic beamsplitter and the AR coating for angles of incidence of 45, 40.5 and 49.5 degrees( as requested in your email).

The estimated price for doing all necessary trials and the final coatings is AUD8,600. We are not set up to perform continuous spectral transmittance and/or reflectance measurements as a function of polarisation or angle of incidence. We would provide normal incidence spectral transmittance measurements, and calculated spectral performance for each polarisation for a reoptimised design that best fits the measured performance at normal incidence. The cost of these measurements are included in the above estimate. Based on our current work commitments we should be able to deliver within your designated timescale.
