Anglo Australian Telescope Schedule 1 August 1997 - 1 February 1998 --- Semester 97B Version 1.5 10 November 1997 Changes from Version 1.4 are indicated by `!'. LLENG is the set-up grade MIT/LL 2Kx4K 15um CCD, which has been offered on a shared risks basis to interested observers in the second half of this semester Note that all runs are subject to ATAC and PATT awarded over-rides as described in the notes at the end of the schedule. B/G/D = Bright/Grey/Dark nights. Likely observers' names are in UPPER CASE. Support ======= Y=support is requested for the whole run. F=support is requested for the first night. N=no support is requested or AAO staff are on the proposal and will provide support. In the former case a contact astronomer's name is given in parentheses. In the latter case, the AAO staff member's name is given in UPPER CASE. Where the support astronomer's name appears in parentheses, it is expected that they will NOT be required at the telescope. Support astronomers may be contacted at USERNAME@aaoepp.aao.gov.au, where USERNAME is given in the last column. `mpe' or `MPE' refers to the Max Planck team who will be supporting the 3D instrument. Observers should contact the MPE team using the e-mail adresses given in the Announcement of Opportunity (http://www.aao.gov.au/local/www/sll/newsletter/jan97/3dnews.html). Explanatory Notes ================= NB: Half nights are defined by the midpoint between astronomical twilight. (1) The following proposals have been awarded over-ride status :- A27 / A44 - Palazzi et al & Galama et al. These proposals are BETWEEN them awarded 5 over-ride imaging observations of up to 3 hours. The standard conditions for over-rides apply. Spectroscopic observations are to be arranged with the director. Any program over-ridden for spectroscopy will be due pay-back. Note that these over-rides only apply if an optical imaging facility is available (f/8 with Aux CCD, Prime CCD or Taurus). THIS DATA WILL BE MADE PUBLIC IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING ACQUISITION. AAO Contact: Chris Tinney (cgt@aaoepp.aao.gov.au) should be contacted to request over-ride. See http://www.aao.gov.au/local/www/cgt/grb/grb.html for further contact and other information. P97A/25 - Harlaftis, Horne, Stathakis, Chen, Remillard, Haswell Up to five 2.5 hour over-rides are allowed on the RGO spectrograph. The standard conditions for over-rides apply. AAO Contact: Ray Stathakis (ras@aaocbn.aao.gov.au) should be contacted to request over-ride. OVER-RIDE STANDARD CONDITIONS : No over-ride is to last longer than 3 hours without the Director's approval. No one run is to be over-ridden more than once without the Director's approval. In either of these two cases pay-back time will be made available. No pay-back is made for a single over-ride of less than 3 hours duration. (2) P20 (Fitzsimmons,Stern) get first half nights, A61 (Blades,Sahu) get second half nights. (3) AAO is to provide set-up support to MPE 3D team. Support to visiting astronomers throughout the run is to be be provided by MPE. (4) A73 (Appleton+++++) get first half nights, P34 (Tacconi-Garman++++) get second half nights. (5) A88 gets 3h override each evening, centered on sunset. A84 and A85 get a combined extra night to compensate for this over-ride. The override does NOT apply on the first night of the 3D run. (6) 5 fibres are to be made available at high priority to P54 for the observation of their targets. (7) P63 is awarded 4 mornings after 8am, using UHRF starting on the morning AFTER observations on the night of Jan 5. Top end is to be changed by day crew. Dome to be closed by local midday. 2dF Status ========== For the first time, specific nights have been allocated to specific 2dF programs in this semester. It is hoped that the instrument will be in a state where observers can usefully be sent to the AAT for the Dec-Jan and Jan runs. Proposers will be informed beforehand if this is the case, in which situation they should arrange for a SINGLE, EXPERIENCED observer to be present at the telescope for their run. Programs for the Sep-Oct and Nov 2dF runs will be carried out in service by AAO astronomers. Proposers will be contacted beforehand, and should be prepared to provide accurate positions and a detailed description of their observing program.
