The Caribbean Eclipse Cruise of 1998 Aboard the "Galaxy"

Map Galaxy

Having suffered the hardships of the Trans-Siberian railway the year before to no avail, Mervyn and I decided to do this next eclipse in style, on board a cruise ship. For this one, we re-united with the organiser of our 1991 eclipse trip to Baja (my first), Dave Moser, who helped us reserve a cabin on the M.V. "Galaxy" of Celebrity Cruises. The "Galaxy" was launched in 1996, and carries 1800 passengers and 900 crew in ultimate luxury.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or experiences of your own to share about the 1998 eclipse. My e-mail address is "sdr", followed by "@aao.gov.au" (sorry, that's a kludge to confuse those Web-crawlers that trawl the WWW for addresses to add to junk-mail lists).

To speed up downloading, I have shrunk the images by a factor of 2, and broken the trip up into sections. If you wish to see the full-size version of any picture, just click on it. The images started out as 35 mm slides, were scanned onto PhotoCD by Imagers of Atlanta GA, then touched up and converted to JPEG format using Adobe Photoshop.

To J.B., for making this the best eclipse yet.
